U.S. SEC Files Lawsuits Against Two Private Equity Funds for Fraudulent Practices

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has initiated lawsuits against two private equity funds, Meyer Global Management and Beyond Alpha Ventures, for allegedly misleading investors and misappropriating funds. The SEC claims that Meyer Global Management, led by Owen Meyer, raised approximately $18.5 million from nearly 100 investors under the pretense of investing in shares of popular tech companies such as OpenAI and SpaceX prior to their initial public offerings (IPOs). However, it is alleged that at least $1.27 million of the raised funds was misused for personal expenses, entertainment, and investments unrelated to the promised assets.

In a separate case, Beyond Alpha Ventures, managed by Christopher Dinelli and Jacob Frankel, is accused of raising over $8.7 million from 35 investors while falsely claiming to hold shares in companies like SpaceX and xAI. The SEC reported that the fund provided misleading investment reports and diverted funds for options trading, film investments, and personal use. The agency clarified that the accused tech companies and their management have not been implicated in any wrongdoing.

The SEC has been actively monitoring investment products that promote acquiring shares before the IPOs of popular private companies and has taken multiple enforcement actions against private fund advisors involved in similar fraudulent activities.
