Microsoft Denies Connection to Unauthorized Clippy-Themed Token

On October 1, 2026, Microsoft Corporation publicly disavowed any association with a token themed around its Clippy character, which is being promoted using the company's $MSFT stock ticker. The company clarified through its official account on the social media platform X that it has not authorized the creation or promotion of this token, which it plans to challenge legally due to unauthorized use of its intellectual property.

The token in question, trading under the name $CLIPPY, has been marketed with imagery of Clippy and claims of a connection to Microsoft. An account named @ClippyMSFT has been one of the prominent promoters of this token, discussing liquidity pools reportedly valued at over $200,000. However, Microsoft emphasized that these tokens do not confer any ownership rights or interests in the company, distancing itself from any implications of financial investment tied to its brand.

Microsoft has a history of protecting its trademarks, including previous actions against unauthorized commercial uses of Clippy. The company’s latest statement not only targets the token itself but also the promotional materials associated with it. This situation raises concerns, particularly regarding claims that the liquidity pools are backed by actual Microsoft shares, which could attract regulatory scrutiny if proven true.
