Ondo Perps CEO Highlights US Market Potential for Perpetual Futures Trading
David Wells, CEO of Ondo Perps, has identified the United States as a significant opportunity for perpetual futures trading, although he did not confirm any immediate plans to launch the platform in the country. This announcement follows the offshore platform's impressive performance, which has surpassed $8 billion in cumulative trading volume since its phased rollout began earlier this year.
Ondo Perps, operated by Ondo Global Panama Inc., offers 24/7 leveraged trading on a variety of assets including US equities, ETFs, indices, and commodities, with leverage options of up to 20 times. The platform recently expanded its offerings by launching spot trading for 12 tokenized stocks and ETFs, waiving trading fees for the first 30 days to attract early users.
In August, Ondo Finance and Oasis Pro submitted letters to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), arguing that cash-settled perpetual futures could be accommodated within the existing regulatory framework without the need for new legislation. Despite this, the platform remains off-limits to U.S. persons and users in certain jurisdictions, maintaining a compliance firewall that is unlikely to change without regulatory approval.
