Ripple Prime Introduces Perpetual Contract Trading for Institutional Clients

Ripple Prime, the brokerage division of Ripple, has launched perpetual contracts for real-world assets (RWA) aimed at institutional clients. This new offering encompasses over 100 reference markets, including stocks, indices, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and commodities. The contracts are available through Trade.xyz on the Hyperliquid platform, expanding Ripple Prime's previous initiatives in cryptocurrency perpetual contract trading.

Michael Higgins, CEO of Ripple Prime International, emphasized that this development enhances capital efficiency and position management for institutions. Clients can utilize these perpetual contracts in conjunction with underlying assets for basis trading or for directional trading, allowing them to gain exposure to relevant assets even during traditional market closures and on weekends.

The demand for RWA perpetual contracts has surged, with open interest on major trading platforms rising from nearly zero to $9 billion over the past year. Higgins noted that traditional hedge funds are nearing direct participation in the tokenized RWA market, contingent upon the establishment of infrastructure that satisfies their counterparty and anti-money laundering requirements.
