Stripe and Plasma Launch Multi-Currency Stablecoin Card to Cut Exchange Costs

Stripe has announced a partnership with Plasma to create a multi-currency stablecoin card designed to help individuals and businesses minimize cross-border exchange costs. This new card will allow users to spend the currencies they already hold in their accounts, eliminating the need for unnecessary currency conversions.

Plasma will act as the design partner, integrating its services with Stripe's stablecoin card infrastructure. The card will support various currencies, including US dollars, Brazilian reais, euros, Mexican pesos, and Colombian pesos, as well as stablecoins such as USDC and OUSD. The initiative adheres to the requirements set forth by the GENIUS Act for qualified stablecoins.

Currently, the Stripe stablecoin card service is available in over 30 countries, with plans to expand to more than 100 countries by 2027. This development will enable users to spend directly in their local currencies, such as euros, without needing to convert to US dollars first. Additionally, businesses will have the option to issue currency cards tailored to their specific spending needs, allowing for more efficient financial management.
