Spark Allocates $210 Million for Institutional Loans Backed by Bitcoin

Spark, the lending arm of the Sky ecosystem, has announced a $210 million allocation for institutional loans collateralized by Bitcoin, in partnership with Anchorage Digital, a federally chartered digital asset bank in the United States. This collaboration aims to merge decentralized finance (DeFi) with regulated custody, allowing institutions to borrow against their Bitcoin holdings while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Three institutional clients have already utilized this lending channel, borrowing $150 million in USDC against Bitcoin valued at $222 million, resulting in a collateralization rate of approximately 148%. This means that for every dollar borrowed, institutions are posting nearly $1.50 in Bitcoin as collateral. The setup leverages Anchorage's Atlas platform, which acts as the collateral agent, managing loan-to-value ratios and processing payments without requiring borrowers to move their Bitcoin fully on-chain.

The integration of RedStone oracles in mid-June 2026 has further enhanced risk management by providing real-time loan-to-value data for the collateral held by Anchorage, ensuring continuous oversight of loan health. By the end of the second quarter of 2026, Anchorage's contribution to Spark's lending portfolio had increased by about 70%, reaching approximately $260 million, making it the highest-yielding segment with returns around 6.5%. This growth occurs within a broader off-chain crypto-backed lending market estimated at $33 billion.
