      Standard Chartered Launches Spot Trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum for Institutional Clients in the UAE

      • Standard Chartered has launched spot cryptoasset trading for institutional clients in the Gulf countries.
      • The bank’s clients now have access to trading bitcoin and Ethereum with physical delivery of the assets.

      Standard Chartered has launched spot trading in bitcoin and Ethereum for institutional clients in the United Arab Emirates. Reuters reported this.

      As a result, Standard Chartered has become the first global systemically important bank to offer institutional clients spot cryptoasset trading in the UAE, the report said.

      Institutional clients of Standard Chartered can buy and sell bitcoin and Ethereum with physical delivery of the assets via the bank’s electronic trading channels.

      The service has been integrated into Standard Chartered’s existing infrastructure. Clients can execute cryptoasset transactions through the same interfaces used for foreign exchange trading.

      In addition, the statement said that spot trading involves buying or selling the cryptoassets themselves with delivery, unlike derivatives transactions, where parties enter into contracts whose value depends on the price of the underlying asset.

      Clients can settle trades through a custodian of their choice. Available options include Standard Chartered’s own digital asset custody solution.

      Reuters noted that the new service complements Standard Chartered’s custody business in the UAE, which the bank launched in September 2024. Institutional clients can now not only store digital assets via the bank’s infrastructure, but also execute spot transactions in them.

      Standard Chartered’s Cryptocurrency Forecasts for 2028–2030

      Notably, Standard Chartered analysts, including Geoffrey Kendrick, head of digital assets research, are placing a major bet on the decentralized finance sector and real-world asset tokenization, forecasting significant growth for key market projects:

      • the RWA market. The bank expects the tokenized asset sector to expand to $4 trillion by the end of 2028. Against this backdrop, experts forecast Chainlink to rise to $200 by 2030;
      • Ethereum. Analysts compare Ethereum to Amazon circa 2001 and forecast a price surge to $40,000;
      • Aave. The target price is $3,500 by the end of 2030. The main drivers are DeFi growth, wider RWA adoption, and the expansion of onchain lending;
      • Uniswap. A roughly 40x increase is expected — to $100 by the end of 2030;
      • Morpho. A forecast calls for the token to rise to $60 by 2030 amid a tokenization boom.
