Strategy Invests $176.3 Million in Preferred Stock, Pauses Bitcoin Purchases

Strategy, a company listed on NASDAQ under the ticker MSTR, has redirected $176.3 million into its own preferred stock, STRC, rather than making new investments in Bitcoin. This decision raises questions about the company's commitment to its Bitcoin strategy, especially as it has not purchased any Bitcoin in the past week and has experienced significant unrealized losses on its existing holdings.

The recent filing, signed by general counsel Thomas C. Chow, indicates that Strategy has opted to buy back its preferred stock at a discount, which is designed to trade around its $100 par value. The company has increased the annualized dividend rate on STRC from 11.50% to 12.00% to maintain its market value. This buyback is part of a broader strategy to manage its capital structure amid ongoing challenges in the cryptocurrency market.

Despite the pause in Bitcoin purchases, Strategy has expanded its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $1 billion to $2 billion, allowing for further buybacks of STRC when it trades below par. The company has now spent approximately $811.5 million on repurchasing STRC since the buyback campaign began in July 2026, while its Bitcoin holdings remain unchanged, raising concerns among investors about the future direction of its capital allocation.
