UK Freezes $12 Million London Penthouse Linked to Alleged Scam Finance Chief

The United Kingdom has frozen a London penthouse valued at £9 million (approximately $12 million) associated with Thet Li, who is accused of managing finances for the Prince Group, a conglomerate allegedly involved in a massive scam network linked to $14 billion in Bitcoin. This action is part of a broader sanctions initiative targeting the Prince Group, which has been labeled a transnational criminal organization by U.S. authorities.

Thet Li, also known as Li Tian, holds citizenship in China, Cambodia, and Vanuatu. The asset freeze, enacted in March 2026, prevents him from selling, renting, or profiting from the property. Li was previously sanctioned by the U.S. in October 2025, alongside Prince Group founder Chen Zhi, who faces charges of wire fraud and money laundering related to the group's operations.

On October 12, 2026, UK authorities expanded their actions by freezing a mansion in London valued at approximately 170 million yuan (around $24 million) and several luxury watches linked to Li. This move coincides with a significant U.S. Department of Justice effort to seize about 127,271 Bitcoin, valued at around $15 billion, which is believed to be connected to the group's fraudulent activities.

The Prince Group is accused of orchestrating extensive cyber fraud schemes from Cambodia, utilizing tactics such as 'pig butchering' and romance scams to defraud victims globally. The international crackdown on the group includes asset freezes in Hong Kong, where a court imposed restrictions on approximately HK$8.9 billion in assets associated with Chen and Li. These coordinated efforts highlight the increasing scrutiny of cryptocurrency and illicit finance.
