Standard Chartered Bank Launches Institutional Custody for Ripple's RLUSD in Dubai

Standard Chartered Bank has introduced institutional custody services for Ripple's stablecoin RLUSD at its branch in the Dubai International Financial Centre. This initiative supports the operation of RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, enabling qualified institutional clients to utilize the bank's digital asset custody infrastructure.

In addition to custody services, Standard Chartered plans to implement a collateral mirroring model in collaboration with LMAX Group, an institutional trading company. This model allows clients to use RLUSD as collateral for trading while the tokens remain securely held in the bank's custody. Standard Chartered asserts that this approach mitigates transfer-related risks and aids institutions in managing counterparty exposure.

The partnership between Ripple, the issuer of RLUSD, and LMAX Group was announced in January 2026, aiming to enhance the institutional adoption of this stablecoin. However, Standard Chartered noted that the new collateral functionality is subject to final documentation, testing, regulatory requirements, and internal approvals before it can be fully operational.
