Sui Foundation Invests $30M in DATA Network to Develop AI Infrastructure

      • Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in DATA Network.
      • The project will migrate to the Sui blockchain, and its DATA token will be moved to the new network at a 1:1 ratio.
      • The partnership aims to develop infrastructure for AI training.

Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in DATA Network as part of a strategic partnership aimed at developing infrastructure for AI training. The agreement предусматривает integration of the protocol with the Sui blockchain and the Walrus decentralized data storage platform.

Once the deal is finalized, Sui Foundation will become the project’s largest institutional holder. Other participants will include PIP Labs and DATA Foundation.

As part of the collaboration, DATA Network will fully migrate to Sui, and the project’s own blockchain will be shut down once the migration is complete.

The DATA token will be moved to the new network at a 1:1 ratio. Holder rights, lockup terms, and vesting schedules will remain unchanged. Until the transition is complete, the existing infrastructure will continue operating.

The developers promised to publish a detailed migration timeline and user instructions before the upgrade begins.

      AI Training Infrastructure Development

The partnership is focused on building infrastructure that enables AI developers to access training data with verified provenance and usage permissions.

In June 2026, DATA Foundation refocused its efforts on artificial intelligence solutions and introduced Trace — a registry for tracking information provenance, managing rights, and paying rewards to data providers.

Since launch, Trace has recorded more than 250 million contributions to datasets. The system now processes over 3 million entries daily. Among the applications using this infrastructure, the developers highlighted Kled, Numo, and Oto.

Under the agreement, Walrus will become the primary data storage platform for DATA Foundation applications. The system will enable encrypted copies of source materials to be stored and their authenticity verified.

Mysten Labs co-founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun noted that further AI development will require new sources of training data, as the ability to rely on publicly available internet content is becoming increasingly limited.

He said that integrating Trace with the Sui and Walrus infrastructure will broaden access to high-quality information with verified usage rights.

In addition, Poseidon Chairman and PIP Labs CEO Si Yang Lee will join the Sui Foundation as a strategic advisor.

As a reminder, in March 2025, the Walrus Foundation raised $140 million to develop decentralized data storage infrastructure.

The exact timeline for completing DATA Network’s migration to Sui has not yet been disclosed.
