Brent Oil Prices Remain Above $100 Amid Competing Market Forces

Brent crude oil prices settled just above $100 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) held near $89.50, reflecting a market balancing three significant factors. These include recovering oil supply from the Middle East, a coordinated release of emergency stocks by the Group of Seven (G7), and ongoing geopolitical tensions that threaten further disruptions.

Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister announced that flows through the East-West Pipeline, which transports crude to the Red Sea export hub of Yanbu, have returned to nearly 6 million barrels per day, close to its capacity of 7 million. This resumption follows damage to the pipeline, which was repaired within five days. Additionally, a commodity trader reported that approximately 12 million barrels of crude and 2 million barrels of refined products have been exported from the Middle East in recent days, aimed at alleviating price pressures.

On the policy front, the G7 agreed to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude from emergency reserves, responding to high diesel prices exacerbated by conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. Meanwhile, tensions in the Gulf region persist, with recent Houthi missile attacks on Saudi airports and reports of an explosion on Iran's Qeshm Island, contributing to market uncertainty. Analysts anticipate a crude build of around 2 million barrels in US inventories, which would mark three consecutive weekly increases, as the Energy Information Administration is set to release official figures soon.
