France Considers Bypassing Parliament for €43 Billion Budget Cuts

French Finance Minister Roland Lescure announced that the government may invoke constitutional powers to pass the 2027 budget without parliamentary approval if ongoing negotiations do not yield results. This budget plan includes approximately €43 billion in spending cuts aimed at ensuring that the national deficit does not exceed 5% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

The potential use of Article 49.3 of the French Constitution to expedite the budget process could lead to a no-confidence vote, increasing the political risks for the government. This situation arises as French borrowing costs remain under pressure, highlighting the challenges the administration faces in managing public finances while navigating political dynamics.
