Crude Oil Prices Decline Amid Strategic Reserve Release

Crude oil prices have reached new lows for the day, influenced by the announcement from the United States regarding the release of 40 million barrels from its Strategic Petroleum Reserves. This development has contributed to a bearish sentiment in the market. Throughout September, crude oil futures experienced significant fluctuations, rising from a low of approximately $85.75 to a peak of $107.46 on September 15, before experiencing a sharp decline that saw prices bottom out around $88.72 on September 22 and 23.

The recent trading has been characterized by volatility as market participants assess the next potential movement. Buyers attempted to push prices above the 200-hour moving average for the first time since September 17, but were unable to maintain that momentum. Following a brief rally, crude oil prices fell back, currently trading near $90.44 after hitting a session low of $90.06. Reports of increased crude export volumes from major Middle Eastern producers have further added to the downward pressure on oil prices.

The 200-hour moving average, situated near $94.74, remains a critical level for traders. A sustained move above this average could shift the market dynamics in favor of buyers, while failure to maintain this level could lead to further declines. Key support levels to watch include $88.72, which has previously held firm, and if breached, could lead to further targets at $86.93 and $86.55, corresponding to the 50% retracement and the 100-day moving average, respectively.
