Crude Oil Prices Rebound Amid Supply Risks and Geopolitical Tensions

Crude oil prices experienced a rebound after facing downward pressure, which had threatened a significant breakdown below a rising channel. The recovery comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the stalemate in negotiations between the United States and Iran, as well as persistent disruptions in the Middle East. Recent escalations in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, targeting airports and energy infrastructure, have further contributed to concerns over supply reliability.

Additionally, a developing storm in the Gulf of Mexico poses risks to U.S. oil and gas production, with precautionary shutdowns already affecting facilities that account for approximately 15% of U.S. crude production and 5% of natural gas output. Major refineries are also at risk of disruption due to the storm, adding to the market's uncertainty.

Despite improvements in physical exports from the Middle East, the oil market remains vulnerable to supply risks. The U.S.-Iran negotiations have stalled, with Tehran demanding concessions from Washington regarding its nuclear program, while the U.S. seeks concrete actions from Iran. Until there is significant progress in these talks and a clearer path to reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the market is expected to maintain a geopolitical and supply-risk premium.
