Federal Reserve Official Neel Kashkari Open to October Interest Rate Hike

Neel Kashkari, a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in the United States, expressed an open-minded stance regarding a potential interest rate hike in October. He stated that he does not hold a strong opinion on the matter and is receptive to adjusting the pace of monetary tightening based on economic conditions.

In his September projections, Kashkari indicated the possibility of one additional rate hike in 2026, followed by another in 2027. He noted that the U.S. economy has exceeded expectations, suggesting that further rate increases may be necessary if this strength continues. Despite these considerations, he mentioned that inflation expectations remain stable, hovering around the Fed's target of 2%.
