Yellen's comments highlight concerns that the tariffs have not only increased costs for American consumers but have also strained relationships with key allies. Bloomberg Economics has reported that the effective tariff rate in the United States currently stands at 11.2%, which is nearly nine percentage points higher than levels recorded in early 2025. This increase in tariffs has raised questions about the broader implications for international trade and cooperation.
