Google’s 20-Year Nuclear Agreement Powers Constellation Energy (CEG) 9% Rally
TLDR
- Constellation Energy shares surged 9% in early Tuesday trading following the announcement of a two-decade nuclear energy agreement with Google.
- Google’s parent company Alphabet committed to purchasing 890 megawatts from 11 nuclear facilities operated by Constellation across three states.
- Both parties will collaborate on deploying Google Cloud and Gemini technology to optimize grid management and operations.
- Before this announcement, CEG shares had fallen 24% year-to-date through Monday’s session.
- The Google partnership represents Constellation’s fourth major agreement with a technology giant, adding to existing contracts with Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon.
Shares of Constellation Energy (CEG) rallied 9% to $292.25 during pre-market hours on Tuesday. The surge followed news that Alphabet (GOOGL) had committed to a 20-year deal to purchase nuclear energy from the power supplier.

Meanwhile, Alphabet’s stock showed minimal movement, rising less than 1% on the announcement. Google’s parent company entered Tuesday’s session with an approximately 11% gain for the year.
Under the agreement, Constellation will provide 890 megawatts of nuclear capacity. The electricity will be generated from 11 nuclear facilities the company operates in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Google requires this substantial energy supply to power its expanding network of artificial intelligence data centers. Technology companies have been aggressively securing long-term power contracts as their computational requirements continue to expand.
Building a Portfolio of Tech Industry Partnerships
Constellation has established a track record of securing agreements with major technology players. In 2024, the company announced a partnership with Microsoft (MSFT) to bring the Three Mile Island nuclear facility in Pennsylvania back online.
That was followed by a 20-year contract with Meta Platforms (META) in 2025. Most recently, just days ago, the company revealed it would provide nuclear electricity to Amazon (AMZN) from a facility in Maryland.
The Google agreement brings Constellation’s total to four significant technology sector deals within a two-year span. The nuclear operator has effectively positioned itself as the preferred energy partner for companies driving the AI revolution.
Additional capacity resulting from this contract will also be added to the PJM Interconnection network. PJM operates as the nation’s largest grid manager, serving all or portions of 13 states in addition to the nation’s capital.
Technology Integration Beyond Power Supply
This partnership extends beyond a traditional electricity purchase agreement. Constellation announced plans to implement Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise platforms to develop what both companies describe as an “AI for Energy” framework.
The initiative aims to leverage artificial intelligence to reduce infrastructure expenses and enhance grid efficiency. According to both parties, the system should also help ensure adequate power generation to meet escalating demand.
There’s an interesting circular relationship at play: artificial intelligence requires massive amounts of electricity, while power companies are now turning to AI to optimize their operations. The real-world effectiveness of this approach remains to be demonstrated.
Despite securing multiple high-profile technology partnerships, Constellation’s stock performance has been disappointing. Through Monday’s closing bell, shares had declined 24% year-to-date, before Tuesday’s morning bounce.
Market participants have expressed frustration with the slow translation of these prominent deals into bottom-line profit growth. Securing partnership announcements is straightforward. Converting them into meaningful earnings results is considerably more challenging.
Tuesday’s pre-market surge indicates investors continue to respond positively to each new contract announcement, even as the broader yearly performance remains weak. The stock price continues to trade significantly below its 2026 opening levels.
Neither Constellation nor Alphabet disclosed the financial terms of their 20-year contract. Both organizations positioned the collaboration as a strategic, long-term investment in nuclear energy to support artificial intelligence expansion.

Google is reportedly close to a $1 billion+ deal to buy nuclear power from Constellation Energy, and it could be announced as soon as this week.
