FX Option Expiries on October 5 Show Limited Impact on Currency Markets

On October 5, 2026, there are no significant foreign exchange option expiries that are expected to influence currency prices. Notably, while there are larger expiries for the EUR/USD pair at levels of 1.1300 and 1.1325, these are deemed too distant from current trading levels to have a meaningful impact. Similarly, for the USD/JPY pair, a substantial $2.0 billion expiry at 156.00 is nearly 180 pips away, suggesting it will not affect market movements unless there is a significant downward shift in the pair.

Market sentiment today is anticipated to be driven more by macroeconomic factors than by these expiries. The bond market is highlighted as a critical area to monitor as the week progresses. Long-end Treasury yields in the United States remain elevated, despite a weaker-than-expected jobs report released last Friday. The report indicated a modest increase in non-farm payrolls of just 29,000, falling short of expectations, while the unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.2%.

Following the jobs report, 10-year Treasury yields initially dipped to 5.16% but quickly rebounded to close at approximately 5.28%. Currently, yields are hovering around 5.26%, reinforcing the notion that high yields are exerting pressure on broader financial markets. This trend is likely to continue influencing major currencies and the value of the U.S. dollar throughout the day.
