Global Markets React to Oil Price Cuts and Strengthening US Dollar

Oil prices opened lower as recovering exports from the Middle East and a significant stock release by G7 nations countered recent claims of attacks on energy infrastructure by Yemen's Houthis. Saudi Aramco announced an unexpected $3 cut to its November Arab Light price for Asia, marking the widest discount since June 2020. This decision came as OPEC+ maintained its output targets for November, indicating stability in production despite geopolitical tensions.

In currency markets, the US dollar strengthened against major currencies, with the EUR/USD pair dropping to its lowest level since May 2025. The USD/JPY exchange rate remained near 158, despite a shift in rhetoric from Japanese officials regarding inflation and economic stability. Japan's economy minister stated that the country is no longer in deflation, while the Bank of Japan's deputy governor highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence on demand and prices, warning of potential correction risks if profit growth does not keep pace.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei index surged by 2.5% to reach a three-month high, driven by gains in AI-related stocks. Meanwhile, Australia's services PMI showed signs of slowing growth as companies faced increased price pressures and job cuts. Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers described the ongoing conflict in Iran as an economic disaster, emphasizing the rising costs associated with increasing bond yields. As the week progresses, attention will turn to the upcoming release of the Federal Reserve's meeting minutes, which may provide insights into future interest rate decisions.
