Nikkei Index Reaches Three-Month High Amid AI Stock Rally

Japan's Nikkei share average surged approximately 2.5% on Monday, achieving its highest level since early July, primarily driven by artificial intelligence-related stocks. The broader Topix index also saw a gain of around 1.2%, indicating that the rally was largely concentrated in technology sectors rather than a widespread increase across all equities.

The upward movement in the Nikkei followed a positive trend in the United States, where stocks rose after weaker-than-expected jobs data diminished expectations for an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve this month. Despite the rally, market participants noted that investor sentiment remains more cautious compared to earlier this year, suggesting a more selective approach to AI stock investments.

In addition to the stock market developments, Japan's economic indicators revealed a slowdown in services growth for September, while price pressures continue to be significant. Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Uchida highlighted AI as a major demand shock that is influencing prices, further complicating the economic landscape as investors await insights from this week's Federal Reserve minutes.
