Bitcoin ETF Inflows Surge in September Amid Market Fluctuations

In September 2026, significant inflows into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were observed, particularly in BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). A recent report indicated that approximately $1.6 billion flowed into Bitcoin through IBIT over the month, reflecting strong investor demand for the product rather than direct purchases by BlackRock itself. The inflows closely mirrored Bitcoin's price recovery, which saw the cryptocurrency rise to around $87,000, marking a 16% increase from earlier lows.

The month was characterized by volatility, with initial outflows of $236.5 million from US spot Bitcoin ETFs on September 1, primarily driven by IBIT. However, by September 3, IBIT had rebounded with inflows of about $454 million, accounting for 62% of all US spot Bitcoin ETF inflows that day. Following a weak mid-month period, a surge in inflows occurred from September 21 to 25, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbing $2.39 billion, the highest weekly total since October 2025.

Despite the strong inflows, the latter part of September showed a decline in daily net inflows, raising concerns about the sustainability of the recovery. Daily inflows decreased from nearly $999 million on September 21 to just $31 million by September 28. This trend suggests that while initial demand was robust, it may not be sufficient to maintain upward momentum in Bitcoin's price without renewed interest from investors. The market is now closely watching daily inflow data and regulatory developments related to the CLARITY Act, which could further influence investor sentiment.
