FX Option Expiries on October 6 Could Influence USD/JPY Trading

On October 6, 2026, there are no significant expiry levels in the foreign exchange options market, although a cluster of expiries around the USD/JPY exchange rate of 158.00-05 may have some influence. This cluster represents over $1 billion in options expiring near the current spot level, which is less than 10 pips away. The psychological significance of the 158.00 level could lead to short-term price movements as traders react to these expiries.

From a technical standpoint, the confluence of the 100 and 200-hour moving averages at 157.75-76 is expected to serve as a critical support level during the trading session. Conversely, the 200-day moving average at 158.49 is anticipated to act as a resistance ceiling. Traders are likely to monitor these levels closely as they navigate the market today.

Market sentiment is also heavily influenced by developments in the bond market, particularly with 10-year U.S. Treasury yields reaching approximately 5.31%, the highest in two decades. This increase in yields is expected to bolster the U.S. dollar, overshadowing the relatively minor impact of today's option expiries.
