Global Markets React to Federal Reserve Rate Hike and Geopolitical Developments

Global markets experienced a positive response following the Federal Reserve's recent rate hike, with Japan's Nikkei and South Korea's Kospi both recording gains. The Fed's decision, which was largely anticipated, has led Goldman Sachs to adjust its forecast for the next rate increase to the end of October, moving away from its previous expectation of a single hike. This shift in outlook has kept investors focused on the pace of monetary tightening as central banks around the world prepare for their upcoming meetings, including the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan.

In the oil market, Saudi Arabia has begun rerouting crude supplies through Oman to Asian refiners, alleviating concerns over potential supply disruptions. This development has contributed to oil prices remaining below recent highs. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions continue as U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet with Gulf Cooperation Council leaders at the United Nations General Assembly to discuss strategies regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran.

On the economic front, New Zealand's second quarter GDP growth surpassed expectations, rising by 2.6% year-on-year, which has eased concerns from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand regarding economic performance. The New Zealand dollar initially gained on the news but later stabilized amid a generally subdued market atmosphere. Additionally, the U.S. Congress has advanced two significant cryptocurrency bills, reflecting ongoing regulatory developments in the digital asset space, while Deutsche Bank plans to offer regulated custody for Bitcoin and Ether to European clients by the end of 2026.
