On Monday, JPMorgan’s analyst Reginald Smith raised IREN’s rating from Underweight to Overweight while increasing the price objective from $46 to $65. Smith highlighted the company’s transformation into a neocloud infrastructure provider and its strategic alliance with NVIDIA as primary catalysts for the upgrade.

Additionally on Monday, BTIG’s Gregory Lewis maintained his Buy recommendation on IREN with an $80 price objective, providing additional momentum entering the trading week.

Shares reached an intraday peak of $43.92 after closing at $41.58 the previous session. Trading volume registered approximately 33 million shares, trailing the typical daily average of roughly 42.7 million.

Texas Grid Operator Announcement Boosts Industry

ERCOT announced conditional allocation exceeding 5 gigawatts of power capacity designated for artificial intelligence infrastructure deployments. The announcement provided a lift to multiple companies operating in the digital infrastructure sector.

Shares of Cipher Mining (CIFR) and Core Scientific (CORZ) similarly advanced Wednesday as the ERCOT disclosure highlighted the strategic importance of power access controlled by these operators.

Securing substantial electricity capacity remains essential for firms scaling AI data center operations, which demand significantly more energy than conventional computing facilities.

      Developments at Sweetwater Facility

IREN’s 2-gigawatt Sweetwater Hub located in Texas obtained conditional Base Load designation through ERCOT’s Batch Zero review process, as disclosed on September 8.

The facility encompasses Sweetwater 1 with 1.4 GW capacity and Sweetwater 2 with 600 MW. Combined, these assets represent a portion of IREN’s 5-GW worldwide data center development pipeline.

IREN has already activated the high-voltage electrical substation at Sweetwater 1. The company is constructing 300 MW of gross data center infrastructure at the site, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

ERCOT’s designations are preliminary and await additional regulatory approval processes.

Financially, AI Cloud Services revenue expanded to $128.8 million during fiscal 2026 compared to only $16.4 million in the previous fiscal year. IREN also elevated its fiscal 2026 annual recurring revenue projection to $4.0 billion from $3.4 billion.

This revenue expansion came with substantial costs. IREN reported a net loss of $702.6 million for fiscal 2026, which included $638.8 million in impairment charges primarily related to decommissioning bitcoin mining hardware.

IREN exhibits a beta of 4.28, positioning it among the more volatile equities in the sector. The company maintains a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.80 and commands a market capitalization of approximately $16.79 billion.

From a technical analysis perspective, IREN traded above both its 20-day and 50-day moving averages while remaining beneath its 100-day and 200-day moving averages. The RSI registered 53.50, indicating neutral momentum. Technical resistance appears near $49, while support is identified around $35.

The analyst consensus rates IREN as “Moderate Buy” with an average price target of $82.93. Bernstein maintains the highest target among analysts at $100.

Institutional investors hold 41% of outstanding shares, with Bank of America expanding its position by 58.4% and Situational Awareness LP boosting its stake by 34.5% during the first quarter.
