Limited Progress Anticipated in Upcoming Trump-Xi Meeting

Yardeni Research has indicated that the upcoming meeting between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is unlikely to yield a significant breakthrough. Scheduled for Thursday, the meeting is expected to focus on extending the existing trade truce and exploring selective commercial agreements rather than addressing the most contentious issues.

Areas where potential progress could be made include agricultural products such as soybeans, the sale of Boeing jets, access to rare-earth materials, cooperation on fentanyl issues, and establishing guardrails for artificial intelligence. However, the research firm cautions that the most challenging topics, particularly those related to Taiwan and competition in AI technology, are expected to remain unresolved after the discussions.
