Microsoft to Revise 2030 Climate Goals Amid Rising AI Data Center Power Demand

Microsoft President Brad Smith announced that the company will revise its climate goals for 2030 due to the increasing power demands of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. This adjustment reflects the growing energy requirements associated with AI technologies and their deployment.

In addition to the climate goal revisions, Smith confirmed that Microsoft plans to utilize 200 megawatts of computing capacity at its upcoming facility in the United Arab Emirates. This investment is part of a broader strategy, with the company committing an additional $2 billion to enhance its operations in the Middle East.
