Municipal Borrowers Postpone $6 Billion in Refinancing Amid High Yields

Approximately $6 billion in municipal bond refinancing deals are currently on hold due to elevated yields that diminish potential savings for borrowers. Recent data indicates that benchmark 30-year municipal bond yields have reached 5.26%, marking the highest level since at least 2011.

In response to these market conditions, New Jersey has postponed a planned $1.7 billion refunding. Similarly, Philadelphia has delayed a $450 million refinancing deal. Additionally, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York is evaluating a potential $1 billion refinancing, contingent on market conditions.
