Robinhood (HOOD) Climbs Back to $100 as Trump’s Crypto Initiative Lifts Bitcoin and Coinbase
Key Highlights
- Robinhood shares climbed 5% before market open, momentarily reaching $100.60
- Coinbase experienced a 9.6% surge in morning trading following Wednesday’s 10% increase
- Trump called on lawmakers to advance the Clarity Act during a crypto industry gathering
- Bitcoin’s value increased 11% to $71,755, marking its peak since June
- Tokenized equity trading volume on blockchain reached $9 billion in 2026, representing an 800%+ increase this year
Shares of Robinhood and Coinbase experienced significant upward movement Thursday following President Donald Trump’s appeal to Congress for passage of the Clarity Act, legislation designed to classify Bitcoin and additional cryptocurrencies as commodities instead of securities.
In pre-market activity, Robinhood advanced 5%, briefly crossing the $100.60 threshold. Coinbase jumped 9.6% during early trading hours, building on Wednesday’s impressive 10% rally. Strategy, a prominent Bitcoin holder, similarly gained 5%.
These gains followed Trump’s August 19 meeting with cryptocurrency sector leaders at the White House, where he voiced strong support for the proposed legislation. A procedural vote on the Clarity Act is scheduled for September 15.
Bitcoin’s value surged 11% across a 24-hour period, hitting $71,755—its most elevated level since the beginning of June, per Dow Jones Market Data.
Tenev Advocates for Tokenization Framework
Robinhood’s stock performance received additional support from its chief executive. On August 18, Vlad Tenev released an influential article urging American regulators to establish comprehensive guidelines for tokenized securities.
Tenev warned that without action, the United States could forfeit the development of next-generation financial infrastructure to international rivals. He characterized the present environment as the beginning stages of a worldwide tokenization boom.
He further praised the Clarity Act as an important milestone in establishing a stable cryptocurrency framework within American borders.
On-chain tokenized equity transactions have already totaled $9 billion in 2026, reflecting growth exceeding 800% compared to the start of the year. This expansion has strengthened Robinhood’s position as a possible frontrunner in this emerging market.
Sector Had Faced Headwinds
Thursday’s rallies occurred independently of broader market trends. The S&P 500 closed virtually unchanged, while the Nasdaq showed minimal gains. The advances in Robinhood and Coinbase stemmed from developments specific to their industry.
Cryptocurrency-related equities had experienced challenging conditions throughout most of 2026. A combination of economic headwinds, stagnant regulatory progress, and declining interest in crypto ETFs pressured the sector.
As of Wednesday’s market close, Coinbase had declined 29% year-to-date. Strategy dropped 31%. Robinhood showed a 15% decrease.
Even with Thursday’s positive movement, Robinhood trades considerably below its 52-week peak of $153.86.
Since Coinbase, Robinhood, and Strategy all navigate similar regulatory environments, advancement on federal cryptocurrency policy typically benefits the entire group simultaneously.
Additionally, the Treasury Department took action Wednesday to strengthen bond market stability, contributing to the optimistic sentiment that helped fuel Bitcoin’s ascent.
September 15’s Clarity Act procedural vote represents the next critical milestone for cryptocurrency-related investments.
