Taiwan to Invest in Alaska LNG Project Amid Oil Price Predictions by Trump

US President Donald Trump announced that Taiwan has agreed to purchase 30% of the gas from the Alaska LNG pipeline project, committing approximately $4.4 billion to the initiative. This investment follows a significant pledge of $50 billion from South Korea, bolstering the long-planned project aimed at supplying Alaskan gas to Asian markets and reducing reliance on Gulf supply routes. Trump stated that all necessary permits for the project have been granted and indicated that two deals would be forthcoming.

During a rally in Alaska, Trump reiterated his predictions that oil prices would soon decline and that the ongoing conflict with Iran would come to a swift conclusion. He claimed that energy prices would drop sharply once the war ends and asserted that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. Despite these optimistic forecasts, the oil market remains cautious, with Brent crude settling near $106 per barrel amid escalating tensions, including increased missile attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen's Houthi forces.

While the commitments from Taiwan and South Korea provide a strong commercial foundation for the Alaska LNG project, the timeline for delivering gas remains lengthy, offering no immediate relief to the current tightness in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Oil traders are closely monitoring the situation in the Persian Gulf, as any concrete resolution to the Iran conflict could significantly impact pricing and supply dynamics. Until then, the market is likely to remain focused on potential disruptions rather than promises of quick resolutions.
