Treasury Secretary Bessent Predicts Decline in Oil Prices

Treasury Secretary Bessent stated in a recent CNBC interview that oil prices are expected to decrease in the near future. He mentioned that discussions surrounding Iran's readiness to negotiate are ongoing, with the President asserting that Iran is not yet prepared to make a deal. Bessent expressed confidence that the 'Operation Outcast' initiative would encourage Iran to engage in negotiations.

During the interview, Bessent highlighted the resilience of the U.S. bond market, noting that it remains the best performing bond market globally. He emphasized the strength of the U.S. bonds, stating that if there were significant issues, investors would be shifting their investments away from U.S. bonds to alternatives. He also mentioned a productive meeting with the chief of the People's Bank of China the previous night.

Bessent pointed out that the current yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury bond is at levels comparable to when President Trump took office, indicating stability in the bond market despite ongoing economic challenges. He remarked that he does not foresee any changes to the equilibrium price of U.S. bonds in the near future.
