U.S. Crude Oil Inventory Shows Unexpected Build Amid Strategic Reserve Sale

A recent private survey indicates a surprising increase in U.S. crude oil inventories, contrary to expectations of a drawdown. Analysts had anticipated a reduction of approximately 1.14 million barrels, but the survey revealed a headline build instead. In addition, expectations for distillates remained unchanged, while gasoline inventories were projected to decrease by 500,000 barrels.

In a related development, the United States is set to offer up to 40 million barrels of crude oil from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Bids for this sale are due by October 6, marking the final tranche from an earlier announcement in March, which involved a total of around 172 million barrels. This move is part of the government's strategy to manage oil supply and stabilize market conditions.
