U.S. Stocks Rally as Treasury Yields Decline

U.S. stock markets experienced a significant rally, with the Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq 100 leading the gains. All five major indices closed higher, although small-cap stocks underperformed compared to their technology-heavy counterparts. The decline in Treasury yields provided a crucial boost, with the 10-year yield falling nearly 7 basis points and the 30-year yield dropping below 5.00%. Lower yields tend to increase the present value of future corporate earnings, benefiting growth and technology stocks particularly.

The Nasdaq Composite rose by 439.87 points, or 1.69%, closing at 26,418.30, while the Nasdaq 100 gained 501.92 points, or 1.73%, to finish at 29,446.98. The Dow Industrial Average increased by 316.03 points, or 0.61%, to 51,783.17, and the S&P 500 climbed 85.95 points, or 1.14%, to 7,637.77. In contrast, the Russell 2000, which focuses on smaller companies, saw a modest increase of 15.82 points, or 0.55%, to 2,874.63, indicating a divergence in market performance.

Semiconductor stocks were among the top performers, with notable gains from companies such as Super Micro Computer, which rose 9.50%, and AMD, which increased by 6.36%. Other technology-related shares, including Intel and Moderna, also saw substantial gains. The overall strength in the semiconductor sector contributed to the positive momentum in the Nasdaq indices, reflecting increased investor confidence following recent market volatility. Meanwhile, WTI crude oil prices fell to $101.25, down 1.15%, which may alleviate inflation concerns and support the broader equity market.
