UAE AI company AIQ enters India with million-camera deal

      • For refineries, fuel stations and stores
      • AIQ is JV between Adnoc and Presight
      • Looking at potential takeover targets

AIQ has signed a contract to deploy 1 million cameras to an unnamed Indian oil and gas conglomerate, in part of a bid to expand beyond the UAE artificial intelligence company’s home market.

The cameras, for use in refineries, fuel stations and stores, will use CCTV to read licence plates, AIQ chief executive Dennis Jol told a media briefing on Wednesday.

The group’s AI will provide the Indian company, which Jol declined to name, with information such as what products need restocking in its fuel stations and shops.

About 5 percent of Abu Dhabi-based AIQ’s business comes from overseas customers, Jol said.

It began exporting its technology more than a year ago and is working in countries including Kazakhstan, Egypt, Colombia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Kuwait.

AIQ is a joint venture between UAE state-backed energy group Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Presight AI, which is part of AI and cloud computing specialist G42.

It designs AI systems that make energy operations more efficient, from alerting companies to parts that might fail in oilfields to advising what equipment warehouses should stockpile.

Set up in 2020, its customers include US oilfield services companies SLB and Baker Hughes.

AIQ struck a $340 million deal in March 2025 to use its agentic AI across Adnoc’s operations.

AIQ does not publish its financial results, but Jol said the company is profitable.

The company is looking at potential takeover targets among technology groups, he added.

“We sit on a tonne of cash so … deploying capital is definitely up front and centre,” he said.

Jol and chief technology officer Saravan Penubarthi also said the company has developed a new AI operating system called Genesis.

AIQ has trained its artificial intelligence systems on Adnoc data collected over 70 years equal to 40 petabytes, or around 40,000 terabytes, which is enough to store around 10 million HD movies.
