US Jobs Report Anticipated as Dollar Shows Mixed Performance

Traders in North America are preparing for a significant day as the U.S. jobs report is set to be released. The dollar is exhibiting mixed performance against various currencies, with modestly lower Treasury yields and rising U.S. stock futures. The September jobs report is expected to reveal an addition of 90,000 jobs, a decrease from the 162,000 jobs added in August. The unemployment rate is projected to remain steady at 4.1%, while average hourly earnings are anticipated to increase by 0.3%.

Market expectations indicate a roughly 21% chance of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October. A stronger jobs report, particularly with notable wage growth, could elevate those expectations, while a weaker report might lessen the urgency for further tightening. Traders will be closely monitoring not just the headline payroll figure but also revisions to previous months, unemployment rates, and wage data, as these factors will influence market reactions.

The dollar has weakened against the Japanese yen, British pound, Swiss franc, Australian dollar, and New Zealand dollar, while it has gained slightly against the Canadian dollar and is nearly unchanged against the euro. The Swiss franc has shown the most significant gain against the dollar, continuing its correction below key technical levels. Meanwhile, U.S. stock futures are indicating gains across major indices, supported by lower oil prices and easing Treasury yields ahead of the employment report.
