Goldman Sachs Warns U.S. Diesel Ban Could Impact Latin America Significantly

Goldman Sachs has projected that a sudden halt to U.S. diesel exports could lead to a reduction of approximately 1% in the GDP of Latin American countries. The investment bank noted that while the immediate impact would be significant, existing inventories and alternative suppliers could help mitigate some of the adverse effects on the region's economy.

In the United States, diesel prices are expected to initially decrease by 25 cents per gallon per week following the ban. However, Goldman Sachs cautioned that this trend might reverse as storage capacities reach their limits and gasoline prices begin to rise.

On a global scale, a sustained increase of 10% in diesel prices could contribute an additional 0.1 percentage point to overall inflation rates. This potential rise in diesel prices underscores the interconnectedness of global fuel markets and the broader economic implications of U.S. energy policies.
