BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust Sees $202 Million Outflow Amid Six-Day Withdrawal Streak

On October 6, 2026, clients of BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust redeemed $201.89 million worth of Ethereum exposure, contributing to a total net outflow of $202 million from U.S. spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for the day. This significant withdrawal marks the sixth consecutive day of outflows from the sector, contrasting with inflows into Bitcoin ETFs, indicating a potential shift in investor preferences within the cryptocurrency market.

The iShares Ethereum Trust, which trades under the ticker ETHA, experienced the largest single-fund redemption among U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs on this date. This follows a previous notable withdrawal of approximately $110 million on September 16, 2026, coinciding with broader Ethereum ETF outflows totaling $224 million, likely influenced by a recent rate hike from the Federal Reserve.

Despite the recent outflows, cumulative net inflows into U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs since their launch in July 2024 stand at $13.549 billion, with total assets under management across the group reaching $17.356 billion. The iShares Ethereum Trust alone accounts for a substantial portion of these inflows, with historical net inflows of about $13.036 billion, highlighting its dominance in the sector. However, this concentration poses risks, as a single negative event for ETHA can impact the entire category.

The concurrent inflows into Bitcoin ETFs suggest that some investors are reallocating their cryptocurrency investments, shifting from Ethereum to Bitcoin. Additionally, BlackRock's staking-enabled Ethereum product, ETHB, has also faced outflows in recent weeks, indicating that simply adding yield to an Ethereum ETF may not be sufficient to retain capital during periods of negative sentiment.
