Ethereum active validators drop to about 863,000, staked ETH rises slightly
PANews, October 7 - According to The Defiant, citing Beaconcha.in data, the number of active Ethereum validators fell 2.5% over the past 7 days to about 863,000, while the total amount of staked ETH rose slightly by 0.08% over the same period to 43.74 million ETH.
The decline in validator count is mainly related to the validator consolidation mechanism following the Pectra upgrade. The upgrade raised the maximum effective balance of a single validator from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, allowing operators to merge multiple validators without exiting staking, thereby reducing network communication and consensus overhead. Currently about 507,000 ETH are in the consolidation queue, with an estimated wait time of about 5 days and 11 hours.
