BlackRock Maintains No Plans for XRP ETF Amid Rival Funds' Growth
BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager with approximately $15 trillion in assets under management, has reaffirmed its decision not to pursue a spot XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF). This stance, first communicated in August 2025 following the resolution of Ripple's lawsuit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has remained unchanged as of late September 2026. BlackRock continues to focus its crypto ETF offerings on Bitcoin and Ethereum, which dominate the U.S. market.
Despite BlackRock's absence, seven U.S. issuers have successfully launched spot XRP ETFs, collectively amassing around $1.77 billion in assets as of September 25, 2026. This amount represents approximately 1.18 billion XRP tokens, equating to about 1.9% of the token's circulating supply. Analysts suggest that BlackRock's reluctance to enter the XRP market may signal a bearish outlook for the token, as the firm prioritizes client demand, market maturity, liquidity, and portfolio fit in its evaluation of potential crypto ETFs.
Robbie Mitchnick, BlackRock's head of digital assets, has indicated that XRP currently does not meet the firm's criteria for a viable ETF. The ongoing success of rival XRP ETFs will be crucial in determining whether the token can attract institutional investment without BlackRock's endorsement. Investors are advised to monitor the growth of assets under management in these existing funds, any shifts in BlackRock's position on XRP, and changes in the circulating supply share held by ETFs.
