Mastercard Executive Discusses Future of Payments and Stablecoins at OKX NOW Conference

At the OKX NOW conference, Raj Dhamodharan, Executive Vice President of Blockchain and Digital Assets at Mastercard, shared insights on the future of the payment landscape. He emphasized that while technologies like stablecoins will play a significant role in the background, the user experience will remain focused on simplicity and trust. Dhamodharan noted that the nearly zero-cost transfers associated with stablecoins are only a superficial aspect of a more complex system.

Dhamodharan highlighted that effective cross-border payments necessitate a multi-layered approach, integrating local liquidity and compliance systems. He stated that payment rails are merely one component of the broader infrastructure needed for efficient transactions.

During the same session, Haider Rafique, Global Managing Partner and CMO of OKX, presented industry data indicating that the global stablecoin market is valued at approximately $250 billion, with over 700 million cryptocurrency users worldwide. Rafique also confirmed that the OKX Card operates exclusively on the Mastercard network in regions such as Europe, and both companies are exploring potential collaborations in payment solutions and AI-driven e-commerce.
