Adam Iza Sentenced to 78 Months for Meta Fraud and Hiring Ex-Deputies

Adam Iza, known as the 'Crypto Godfather', was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison on October 5, 2026, for a series of crimes including wire fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy. The charges stem from a scheme that siphoned approximately $37 million through Meta Platforms Inc.'s advertising systems, with Iza admitting to at least $36.36 million in gross income from these illegal activities. He has been in federal custody since September 2024 after pleading guilty in January 2025.

The fraudulent activities took place from December 2020 to September 2024, during which Iza hijacked business-manager accounts from Meta and sold access to advertising firms. In addition to the fraud, he failed to report over $13.2 million in income to the Internal Revenue Service, leading to significant tax losses for the government. To obscure his financial activities, Iza utilized crypto custodians and shell companies.

A notable aspect of Iza's operation was his employment of five former deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who were allegedly hired to intimidate and extort individuals he viewed as adversaries. This arrangement reportedly cost him around $100,000 per month. Several of these former deputies have faced legal consequences, with some already convicted and sentenced for their involvement.

Iza is also serving a concurrent 15-year sentence for a separate case in Connecticut, which involved a violent kidnapping plot related to a Bitcoin theft. This connection to digital assets highlights the intertwining of cryptocurrency with various facets of his criminal activities.
