Ondo Finance Launches Private Markets Platform for Tokenized Notes

Ondo Finance has officially launched its Private Markets platform on October 6, 2026, aimed at providing investors with access to private companies through tokenized notes. The platform's inaugural offering is linked to a pre-initial public offering (IPO) artificial intelligence company, marking a significant expansion from Ondo's previous focus on public equities and U.S. Treasuries.

The tokenized notes will track the per-share value of the AI company's common stock during liquidity events such as an IPO or acquisition. However, these tokens do not confer ownership or voting rights, as they are obligations of the issuer, meaning investors must rely on the issuer's ability to fulfill the note's terms. The notes are set to begin trading on secondary markets continuously this week, a departure from the traditional, more cumbersome process of trading private shares.

Ondo's Acting CEO Ian De Bode highlighted a structural gap in wealth creation, noting that 87% of U.S. companies generating over $100 million in revenue remain private. The company plans to expand its offerings to include sectors such as robotics, cybersecurity, biotech, infrastructure, defense, energy, and space. Currently, the offering is available only to non-U.S. investors in jurisdictions where it is permitted, raising questions about future regulatory perspectives on such financial instruments.
