Bitcoin Trades 32% Below Record High One Year Later
As of October 6, 2026, Bitcoin is trading at approximately $85,300, marking a 32% decline from its all-time high of around $126,000 set one year ago. The peak price, recorded between $126,080 and $126,223, was reached during a period characterized by strong institutional interest driven by spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and a seasonal trend known as 'Uptober' that typically favors cryptocurrency markets.
Following the record high, Bitcoin experienced significant volatility, influenced by macroeconomic concerns and a liquidation event related to tariffs. This downturn saw Bitcoin's price drop to a low of approximately $58,000 by late June and early July 2026. However, the cryptocurrency rebounded sharply, recovering about 45% from its summer low by late September, bringing its market capitalization close to $1.7 trillion.
Historically, Bitcoin has shown a pattern of substantial pullbacks after reaching new highs, with declines of 30% or more not being uncommon. Past cycles indicate that recoveries from such drawdowns typically take between 28 to 38 months. With the market only 12 months removed from its peak, analysts are closely monitoring ETF inflows and macroeconomic developments, as these factors are likely to influence the trajectory of Bitcoin's recovery.
