Blockchain Association and multiple organizations jointly file motion asking court to expedite Illinois Digital Asset Tax Act lawsuits

PANews reported on October 14 that the Blockchain Association and the Crypto Council for Innovation, together with the State of Illinois, the Digital Chamber, and the Illinois Blockchain Association, filed a joint motion with the Sangamon County Circuit Court asking the court to expedite two lawsuits challenging the state's Digital Asset Tax Act.

The state government has agreed to issue an injunction suspending the effectiveness and enforcement of the Digital Asset Tax Act until July 1, 2027. To reach a ruling on the legality of the tax law as soon as possible, the parties proposed an expedited briefing schedule for summary judgment: the first round of motions is set to be filed on November 4, 2026, and all related filings will be completed by January 22, 2027. The parties asked the court to hold a hearing between February 8 and February 19, 2027, and requested that the court issue a ruling by March 1, 2027, to which the state government has no objection. The schedule is still subject to court approval.
