Bitmine Becomes Largest Corporate Holder of Ethereum with Over 6 Million ETH

Bitmine Immersion Technologies has surpassed 6 million Ether (ETH) in holdings, valued at approximately $16 billion, making it the largest corporate holder of Ethereum globally. The company has recently added 17,362 ETH to its treasury, continuing its strategy of accumulating the cryptocurrency, which has transformed it from a Bitcoin mining operation into a significant player in the Ethereum market.

With this latest acquisition, Bitmine now controls nearly 5% of Ethereum's total circulating supply, estimated at around 120.7 million tokens. The company's approach mirrors that of MicroStrategy's Bitcoin accumulation strategy, positioning itself as a leveraged investment in a single digital asset. Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum can be staked for yield, and Bitmine has capitalized on this feature, with over 85% of its ETH holdings staked through its MAVAN platform, projected to generate between $211 million and $357 million in annual revenue.

The pace of Bitmine's acquisitions has slowed from its peak of over 100,000 ETH per week to around 17,000 ETH recently. The company aims to maintain its target of owning 5% of Ethereum's total supply. Institutional investors, including ARK Invest and Founders Fund, have shown interest in Bitmine, betting on the potential returns from both ETH price appreciation and staking income. However, the correlation between Bitmine's stock and ETH price movements presents risks, as a significant drop in ETH prices could adversely affect the company's financial position.
