Critical vulnerability over 10 years old found in XRP Ledger, could have caused excess XRP minting; fixed and upgraded
PANews reported on October 11 that, regarding the critical payment engine vulnerability reported by Veria AI, RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele said the XRP Ledger (XRPL) payment engine contained a serious vulnerability that had existed for over 10 years, which could have allowed XRP to be minted beyond its fixed supply. The vulnerability was discovered through a bug bounty program and had not been exploited. The development team has released the xrpld 3.4.1 fix and coordinated with validators to complete the network upgrade before public disclosure. Akinyele said AI is accelerating vulnerability discovery, and XRPL will increase proactive security investment, clean up technical debt, advance formal verification, and systematically eliminate potential risks in legacy code.
