US Bitcoin ETFs Experience $3 Billion Inflows Amid Institutional Interest

Between September 17 and September 25, 2026, US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracted approximately $3 billion in net inflows, marking one of the strongest buying periods since their launch in January 2024. This surge helped reverse a year-to-date deficit, which had reached about $5.8 billion by mid-July, resulting in a modest net positive of approximately $934 million by late September.

The peak week alone saw net inflows of $2.4 billion, the largest since October 2025. BlackRock's IBIT led the inflow with around $1.2 billion, followed by Fidelity's FBTC with approximately $702 million, and ARK 21Shares' ARKB with about $295 million. Notably, the highest single-day inflow occurred on September 21, 2026, when nearly $999 million was recorded.

The third quarter of 2026 concluded with a total of $6.34 billion in Bitcoin ETF inflows, the highest quarterly total for the year. Cumulative net inflows since the ETFs' inception reached approximately $57-58 billion by early October, with total assets under management estimated between $105-110 billion. However, net outflows resumed in early October, including a notable $244 million outflow on October 8, highlighting the volatility of investor sentiment in the market.

The recent inflows indicate a shift in institutional sentiment towards Bitcoin, suggesting that many investors view it as a legitimate portfolio asset rather than merely a speculative investment. The concentration of inflows in BlackRock's IBIT emphasizes its leading position in the market, while the October outflows serve as a reminder of the potential for rapid changes in market dynamics.
