CZ releases a streamlined crypto asset security guide covering theft prevention, loss prevention, and inheritance planning

PANews reported on October 11 that Binance founder CZ released a streamlined crypto asset security guide, advising users to match security measures to the value of their holdings and their own technical capabilities, with a focus on three key issues: theft prevention, loss prevention, and inheritance.

The guide offers separate recommendations for self-custody and for assets held on centralized exchanges. For self-custody, it advises users to use a dedicated offline computer to store keys and sign transactions, use a reliable hardware wallet, verify transaction addresses, and set up multiple off-site backups, while avoiding taking photos or screenshots of keys to prevent them from syncing to cloud accounts. For inheritance planning, users should prepare a secure recovery plan in advance and avoid directly sharing keys or storing recovery information in unencrypted form. For centralized exchanges, the guide advises users to evaluate the platform's reputation, security capabilities, and business model, and to strengthen account protection through measures such as a dedicated email address, strong passwords, two-factor authentication, hardware security keys, and withdrawal address whitelisting, while also guarding against phishing attacks and API credential leaks.

The guide advises users to allocate funds between exchanges and personal wallets based on their technical capabilities, security practices, and access needs. Choosing self-custody means taking independent responsibility for protecting and recovering keys; choosing exchange custody means relying on the service provider's reliability and requires strong account protection measures. In addition, using a separate wallet ensures funds remain accessible during exchange maintenance.
