Digital Asset Funds Experience $434 Million Weekly Outflows Amid Rising US Inflation
Global digital asset investment products faced significant outflows totaling $434 million for the week ending October 16, 2026, as reported by CoinShares. This decline in investment was triggered by recent US economic data that exceeded market expectations, particularly concerning inflation and retail sales figures for September.
The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.6% month-over-month and 3.7% year-over-year, surpassing the anticipated annual increase of 3.6%. Notably, gasoline prices contributed significantly to this rise, accounting for approximately half of the monthly increase. Additionally, retail sales saw a robust increase of 0.8% month-over-month, well above the forecasted growth of 0.3%, with August's figures also revised upward to 1.3%.
These economic indicators prompted a defensive sentiment in the cryptocurrency market, leading to a reversal from previous inflows into digital asset funds. The outflows coincided with a decline in Bitcoin and other digital asset prices, reflecting the market's sensitivity to US macroeconomic data. As of October 15, prediction markets indicated a 75% probability that the Federal Reserve would maintain current interest rates at its upcoming meeting, while a 25% chance was assigned to a potential 25 basis point hike, further influencing investor sentiment.
