Haruko Cyberattack Compromises Client Data and Results in Fund Losses

Haruko, a digital asset technology platform based in London, has experienced a cyberattack that compromised the data of 15 clients and resulted in the loss of some funds. Founded in March 2021, Haruko connects hedge funds and trading exchanges, providing a unified dashboard for real-time financial insights across various platforms.

Despite implementing security measures such as role-based permissions and multi-factor authentication, the breach raises concerns about the effectiveness of these safeguards. The incident highlights a significant issue within the industry, as the attackers may have accessed sensitive information like API keys or trading credentials, which are crucial for linking client accounts across multiple venues.

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority is likely to scrutinize the breach, given its implications for regulatory oversight in the digital asset sector. Affected clients now face challenges in assessing the extent of the data exposure and determining the impact on their trading strategies, as well as the need to update credentials across all platforms connected through Haruko.
